More than 33 years in the same place, on Kossuth utca. A great deal has changed around us; the principle behind the kitchen has not.
The same address for more than 33 years: Kossuth utca 21, Debrecen. The restaurant still stands where it started — in the middle of the old town, with its own enclosed courtyard.
Much has changed around us over the years: the city, our guests, the fashions. The principle behind the kitchen has not. Traditional Hungarian flavours, dishes from the wood-fired oven, stocks and bases made in house — and dishes finished at your table, so that the cooking is part of the pleasure too.
The house has grown as well: the 135-square-metre Csokonai Deluxe function room now seats 84 guests for weddings, company dinners and graduations — cooked in the same kitchen.
Today the Csokonai is the highest-rated restaurant in Debrecen on Tripadvisor: 3,831 reviews, a 4.9 average and a Travellers’ Choice 2025 award. That is not us saying it.
The same feeling, a different story every time.
We work with bases made in our own kitchen: hand-rolled csiga pasta for the broth, long-simmered stock for the stews, our own creams for the desserts. Whatever is best fresh, we make fresh.
The wood-fired oven and the open flame are the two defining tools of our kitchen — they are where the flambéed dishes come from, the ones we finish at your table.
Every dish on the menu lists its allergens according to the EU 1–14 list. If you have a food allergy or intolerance, please tell your waiter before ordering.
